Is Crypto Crashing Today? Bitcoin Falls Below $84K
Published June 23, 2026 · Updated October 7, 2026 · Educational market context, not financial advice

Bitcoin is below $84,000 and Ethereum is falling harder. Yes, crypto is selling off today. But a sharp drop doesn’t automatically mean the whole market has entered a new bear market.
If you’re asking “is crypto crashing?” before you’ve even had coffee, here’s what’s actually changed.
What’s happening to crypto today?
At 7:42 a.m. ET on October 7, Bitcoin traded around $83,580 on Coinbase, down 2.3% since 8 p.m. ET yesterday. Ethereum was around $2,571, down 4.7% over the same period. Today’s trading isn’t finished.
CoinDesk reports that the drop came as attacks on tankers around Iran pushed oil higher. That raises inflation concerns and adds pressure to markets. The Fed’s September meeting minutes arrive today at 2 p.m. ET—they haven’t been released yet.
Is this a dip or a crash?
A dip is a pullback. A crash usually describes a fast, severe drop across much of the market. There’s no universal percentage that settles it.
Look at how fast prices fell, how many assets fell together, and how long the weakness lasts. Bitcoin and Ethereum are both down this morning. That tells us the selling reaches beyond one coin. It doesn’t settle where Bitcoin sits in its longer cycle.

Now listen, this is a rough morning. We’re reporting it because it matters. But the word “crash” alone doesn’t change our whole read on Bitcoin.
This is why we built remi. Its Crypto Cycle Index shows where Bitcoin sits in the broader cycle, so a red day isn’t your only reference point.
Notice the yellow color on the chart. That signifies Accumulation. Today, October 7, remi still shows Bitcoin in that phase—currently day 122. The price moved. The phase hasn’t changed.

remi also still shows conditions lining up toward Bull Run. That warning is ongoing; nothing has flipped yet, and it isn’t a countdown or a promise.

We hear the news. We check remi. We put the move back into perspective. Headlines can drive emotion-based trading. remi helps take the emotion out of it.
Give the headline some context.
